Of Tadpoles and Homeschooling

Today is day 8 of our observations of our toad tadpoles. One evening last week Superboy spotted a bunch of eggs in our smaller spring-fed stream. They were tiny black dots encased in long spirals of clear jelly.Thinking they were frog eggs, we collected just a few them to study indoors...continued at Lapaz Farm Homelearning...

Considering Homeschool
"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Here are some common questions and answers for those who are considering homeschool. To read the full article , you may click on the bible verse above.

FAQS:

What Kind of Families Homeschool?

Families from all social and racial backgrounds are taking on the education of their own children: parents with a grade 10 education, others with Ph.D.s; the wealthy and the less well-off; Christians, humanists, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, and New Age devotees; families with eight children and those with one; married couples and single parents; those in the inner city and those in the wilds of Alaska; sales clerks, public schoolteachers, doctors, and plumbers. Every year the variety broadens and expands.

Are Their Children Getting a Good Education?

Homeschooled students in the U.S. and Canada score 15 to 30 percentile points, on average, above their public school peers. This is true not only in the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics, but also in science, social studies, and study skills. Testing shows that they are also receiving a firm foundation in sound values, in the history of their own nation and the world, and in self-directed learning....

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High...
15 year old homeschooler has award winning blog

Better yet, he has a heart to witness the gospel and do one-on-one street evangelism.

I have nephews in public school. My sister and brother-in-law are bible-believing Christians, but so far, homeschooling is not an option for them. As I am concerned about the moral and spiritual condition of public schools, home-schooling is a topic of interest to me.

This is why I am listing blogs of homeschooled Christians, and wholesome literature for children of all ages. I hope you will enjoy Agent tim online, and search through his blog... as well as click on the links of other blogs in this category.

I also recommend smart homeschool, squaretalk and other links you will find on his site. This kid
has more technical saavy than me, and I hope to learn more how to organize my site and utilize media tools* that I had not known were available to bloggers.

These blogs are edifiying and I want to say "Way to go, moms and dads! You have chosen well to see past the worldly benefits of a second income, and have chosen a more excellent way.

Way to go, Mr.and Mrs. Agent Tim.
Keep up the good work.

It is not uncommon for people to struggle with insecurity and knowing who they are. A popular "cure" to this insecurity is to, "Believe in yourself,"and "Believe that you can do it." But is this advice something Christians should follow?...Don't Believe In Yourself

I found this story on another favorite site of mine called 'Crossroad'
it is a good discernment ministry.

A parable to help children
recognize and resist New Age deception

...

Too often as parents we tend to become overly critical, forgetting that our children actually listen to what we say! Catch your children doing good things unbidden and let them know that their behaviors are pleasing to God! Get a very pretty vase, pitcher or jar. Everytime you catch you children doing good things unbidden ... like helping their sibling, cleaning their room, picking up various parts of the house, performing schoolwork, etc. ... write that behavior on a piece of paper along with a Scripture verse that supports that behavior. Do NOT tell your children what you are up to ... let the curiosity mount. At the end of the day, list off who did what good behavior unbidden and let them know that this behavior did not go by unnoticed. By catching our children doing well, instead of constantly focussing on discipline problems, we are teaching our children to reach for the prize and think outside of themselves.
